  • Lesson 2: Humility

This lesson takes us to the next step on the path of God’s presence with the Mountain of Humility. It emphasizes the importance of surrendering fully to God, counting the cost of following Christ, and embodying humility both before God and toward others. Drawing from biblical examples like Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac and Jesus’ ultimate humility in his death on the cross, you will learn how true discipleship involves repentance, trust, and self-denial. Through humility, we invite God’s Spirit to dwell within us and submit ourselves to His mission.

    Objectives

This lesson aims to equip you to:

    1. Explain the importance of humility in discipleship as we surrender to God’s will.
    2. Analyze biblical examples of humility, including Abraham’s faith on Mount Moriah and Jesus’ self-sacrifice on Mount Golgotha.
    3. Apply the principles of humility to our own lives in practical ways, identifying specific areas where we need to surrender our ambitions, trust God’s plan, and embody Christlike humility in our relationships with others.

    Reading

As you prepare to proceed through this lesson, we encourage you to read Chapter 2, “Humility,” in Paul Bergin’s, The Path of Presence: A Discipleship of Dwelling with Jesus (Slingshot, 2024).
